I had such a fun afternoon with this beautiful family in Des Moines this past March. The winds were chilly but the sun was warm, which lead to such a pretty session! Loved getting to meet their little boy and spunky pup!

I've had the pleasure of photographing some wonderful families this fall in the Des Moines area. Here's some of our fun!It may come as no surprise that many people feel uncomfortable in front of a camera; especially with a professional photographer. Many shy away and would rather stay home than pose for engagement photos, no matter how much they love their future spouse. This is why it's handy to have a cat sub in for that person who is reluctant. No matter how annoyed Kitty may be, he will never speak of his irritation. Kitty is really good at playing it cool in front of the camera... a true natural. Kitty knows how to look like he's having the time of his life. This couple will make it far together, I can just tell! When we are taking photos, there are no bad memories about how Kitty left the toilet seat up again... Kitty will never speak ill of how you are dressed. You always look magnificent to him. You never have to worry about coordinating outfits. Kitty will work it for the camera. He will pose how you want him to. He will glow in your arms. Kitty might be the image of purity with his spotless fur, even though inside he is hiding a heart of resentment. Kitty never judges you... well, maybe he does, just a little... Kitty might want to be watching the game, but he will stick it out for you. He will remain steady, calm, and collected. He will rock the over-the-shoulder-look like no one else can. In the end, no matter how much he disliked getting his photo taken, he will still be your knight in shining armor and always love you.
I had the pleasure of meeting this beautiful family for a lovely photo session in early spring. They had a wonderful idea of bringing fairy lanterns, I brought the blanket and camera, and they brought the fun! I loved how easily they snuggled with each other and played. PS, did I mention I love photographing red hair? Gawh!!! Family Photos taken in Des Moines Iowa
Here in Des Moines, we have not had much for snow this winter. I’m not what you would call a huge fan of the coldest months of the year, but when I have no choice, I would rather it be snowy. So far, we have only had a little dusting and an Ice Storm Jupiter. When it snowed this winter for more than a couple of hours in a day, I knew my window of photo experimentation was limited. I have two children who are my muses and the youngest, my girl, is most happy to oblige my every idea or inspiration. My oldest, my son, is not so readily available for me. I think sometimes he’d rather sit in a corner by himself than have me take his photos. Because of this and my desire to have a photo of both of my kids playing in the snow at night, I had to come up with some bribing. Luckily for me, it only cost me an ice cream sundae with chocolate chips on top. Here is what I learned about photographing snow at night.
My photo was taken with a Canon 6D using a 35MM ISO 10000 f/4.0 1/1600 A wonderful, lightweight option that is easy to use and carry along is a compact camera by Light. This is a great travel option that utilizes 17 different lenses and does not sacrifice quality for its accessibility! Spent some time with one of my favorite photographer friends of DKay Photography. Fun times in Des Moines!
Here are some fun winter pics taken downtown Des Moines! I loved spending time with this adorable couple!
As we round out the end of 2016, I finally have a little bit of time to share a few of my fall favorites.
Des Moines Photographer - Children and Family The fall weather has been spectacular and we were able to spend an extended amount of time in comfort outdoors. I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph so many wonderful, sweet and beautiful families. Here's a small sampling of who I spent my fall with :)
Des Moines Iowa I was contacted earlier in the summer to surprise their parents for their thirtieth wedding anniversary. We met in August to celebrate and create their first family photos in years. I was so excited to see how freely they expressed their love for each other. #relationshipgoals
